Sparkling THC beverages are on the rise as the new way to consume cannabis sans smoke and smell
California’s cannabis consumers spent $180 million on THC-infused food and drinks last year, 10% of the state’s cannabis sales. Drinkables have been on the rise for some time now, and more companies are releasing their version of THC beverages to get in on the growing trend.
Cannabis beverage company California Dreamin’ created four different flavors of cannabis-infused sparkling drinks to give pot enthusiasts an alternative to smoking. Consumers have a choice of pomegranate, tangerine, grapefruit, and cranberry apple flavors. Each drink contains 10 milligrams of THC, providing more of a social high than an overpowering, “nap time and munchies only” high. California Dreamin’ is made with a sativa blend, a more energizing strain of marijuana to provide liveliness instead of sleepiness. The beverages retail for about $8 to $10 per bottle, and they’ve already started hitting shelves at a few recreational dispensaries in SF.
Sprig prides itself on being a cannabis drink that has no ‘earthy’ taste. The beverage is a citrus flavored sparkling drink that contains 45 milligrams of premium THC oil. In order to prevent the earthy taste that can accompany cannabis products, Sprig infuses their drinks with natural citrus flavors and a little bit of cane sugar. The brand recommends that new drinkers split a can with a friends in order to ease into the experience, which takes effect about an hour after consumption. As of now, Sprig is sold at 300+ dispensaries in California only.
Seattle-based cannabis tech company Tarukino is adding six new cannabis-infused beverages to its lineup. These products are either entirely new or add-ons to its already popular products. The drinks include a diet apple juice drink, sparkling water, a champagne-style beverage, flavorless beverage mixer, and barley soda. Each of these drinks is infused with Tarukino’s SōRSE emulsion technology, a fast-acting water emulsion that makes the cannabis in their products odor and taste free. The brand wants to bring quality products to the cannabis market, without the strong smell or taste that can negatively affect one’s experience.
