Healthy puffed snacks are trending
Today’s youth, who are accustomed to personalization and customization, want tasty snacks that still cater to their individual dietary preferences. The following snack brands are rising to meet this demand by releasing puffed, healthy(ish) snacks that hit that sweet spot for youth who want something crunchy, salty, and better for them than the junk food they still get nostalgic for.
LesserEvil launched a new product called Grain Free Egg White Curls in Whole Foods locations back in April and will offer the product in other national retailers starting next month. LesserEvil developed three flavors for the snack, including Egg & Cheese, Himalayan Pink Salt, and Huevos Rancheros, all of which are formulated with cassava flour, cage-free egg whites, and organic avocado oil. Prior to these egg white curls, LesserEvil released better-for-you Organic Popcorn and Grain Free Paleo Puffs, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to building out the functional food space as demand for these types of foods grows among health-conscious modern youth.
Plant-based food company Hippie Snacks recently released two new crunchy snacks: Cauliflower Crisps and Avocado Crisps. Both are formulated with a base of either avocado or cauliflower, coconut milk, pumpkin seeds, and a combination of brown rice flour and flax seeds to create their crispy, cracker-like texture. The snacks are also non-GMO, gluten-free, and contain five grams of plant-based protein per serving. The Avocado Crisps come in Guacamole and Sea Salt flavors while the Cauliflower Crisps include Original and Classic Ranch flavors. The snacks are more widely distributed in retailers in Canada, but U.S. customers can order the crisps online from Amazon.
Healthy snack food brand Vegan Rob’s recently released Probiotic Cauliflower Puffs made from sorghum flour, cauliflower powder, nutritional yeast (which gives the puffs their cheesy flavor, despite being vegan) and Ganeden BC30 Probiotic, a shelf-stable probiotic that provides additional benefits by boosting overall gut and immune health. In addition to these cauliflower puffs, the brand has other vegetable-based snacks, including puffs made with beets and brussels sprouts and chips made with asparagus, building out a line of vegetable-adjacent munchies that hit that sweet spot for crunchy cravings while being better for consumers than traditional chips.
