Themed hotel rooms invite guests to stay and play

Hospitality brands are partnering with entertainment entities to dream up ways to make branded travel even more immersive and inviting. Recently, the following highly-thematic hospitality initiatives are doing just that, speaking to young travelers’ impulsivity and catering to this cohort’s penchant for nostalgia and participation in fandom.


90s nostalgia reached fever pitch in the recent Lisa Frank x Hotels.com collaboration. The Lisa Frank Flat at Los Angeles’ Barsala hotel—which can only be described as an eye-popping paradise of rainbows, sparkles, and iconic Lisa Frank imagery—was available for bookings from October 11th to October 27th for $199 per night. Guests who snagged this room could make use of a neon pink canopy bed, a rainbow-covered kitchen accented with animal prints (a staple in Lisa Frank iconography), and a bathroom with a technicolor under-the-sea theme. What’s more, the room’s mini-fridge was fully stocked with cult-favorite 90s snacks, including Pixy Stix, Fruit Gushers, and Fun Dip.


They’re creepy and they’re kooky—and for one unforgettable Halloweekend only they invited guests to stay in their home! Booking.com opened a replica of the mansion from The Addams Family for guests to stay at—for one night only—for $101.10. The real-life replica, which was available from October 29th through November 1st and was located in Brookyln’s Clinton Hill neighborhood, prepped fans of the fam for the upcoming release of the 2019 reboot of the classic film. Guests had the opportunity to play with Wednesday’s beheaded dolls, water Morticia’s plants, attend a screening of the new film, all of which offered guests a more immersive portal into this beloved entertainment entity.


Star Wars fans, prepare to release your inner Jedi: Disney is opening its long-awaited Star Wars hotel, which is designed to replicate a starship (and indeed, the overall experience is being billed as a “cruise on land”). Guests of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be invited to book their 2-day, all-immersive adventure, which kicks off with guests entering a launch pod that takes them aboard after they check in. Once the adventure is underway, there are many activities that any young Padawan will want to participate in, such as lightsaber training, stopping by The Bridge to assist in navigation, and interacting with characters roaming throughout the ship.
