Bridal gown purveyors introduce fashion-forward collections for brides of all sizes

According to the Cassandra Report: Gender, almost half of women want to see more plus-size models in ads. While awareness around plus-size fashion is rightfully growing, one major area has been vastly overlooked by major brands: bridal gowns. Lately, fashion-forward companies have begun to embrace their curvier customers, introducing collections that are as stylish as they are inclusive of a more realistic range of sizes.

ASOS CURVE BRIDAL

Building off the success of its plus-size line of trend-forward women’s clothing designed for UK sizes 18-30, ASOS Curve, the British apparel purveyor launched a bridal collection to accommodate brides-to-be of all sizes who don’t want to break the bank. No outfit from the collection exceeds £400, or under $600 US—a bargain compared to the typical bridal gown, which can cost upwards of five figures. Despite the collection’s affordable nature, the retailer insists it doesn’t skimp on quality. The Curve bridal line is part of the company’s larger launch of ASOS Bridal, which follows a hit bridesmaid collection launched last year.

ELOQUII FOR STONE FOX BRIDE

On the heels of the ASOS Bridal launch, contemporary fashion brand ELOQUII, which recently announced $15 Million in Series B funding to continue building its position in the fast-growing plus-size fashion market, is now partnering with Stone Fox Bride, an NYC boutique selling custom-made wedding dresses, vintage gowns, veils, rings and accessories. The partners are offering bridal gowns in sizes 16 to 24 that convey a cool-girl vibe chic enough to appeal to brides and non-brides alike—like the Valentina, a high-drama, ombre rose silk crepe robe dress with bell sleeves that could easily become a special occasion staple.

OLEG CASSINI FOR DAVID’S BRIDAL

The namesake brand of the late fashion designer Oleg Cassini, who was once “Secretary of Style” to the White House and known for creating the signature looks of Grace Kelly and Jackie O., has long been a go-to for brides in search of something timeless and elegant for their walk down the aisle. For the curvy bride in search of such an aesthetic, there’s Oleg Cassini’s line with another major player in the wedding space, David’s Bridal. The line features plus-size gowns ranging from sizes 16 through 26, all with the high-drama factor that fans of the brands have come to expect.
