Travel apps targeting specific demographics take off
Nearly nine in 10 Trendsetting youth aged 14 to 34 in the U.S. and UK think traveling helps them be the best version of themselves. New travel resources, including social media-centric platforms and services offered for specific types of travelers, are helping to make their journeys the best they can be.
Blavity, a media outlet focused on Black Millennials and Black culture, recently acquired platform Travel Noire, a startup providing travel content and resources for Black Millennials. Travel Noire offers travelers tips, tricks, and advice from locals and fellow travelers alike, curating content from young people around the world to offer a comprehensive guide for any destination. In addition to providing information to young people planning trips, the startup also hosts organized group travel experiences; while attendees can sign up with friends, more than one-third of youth Trendsetters are interested on going on a group trip to meet new people.
Despite the number of travel services available today, the founders of Solocal didn’t feel any of them catered to females traveling on their own. The app, launching soon in beta in London, offers its services exclusively to women. Solocal aims to empower women’s journeys by making them easier, safer, and more enjoyable; it helps connect solo female travelers with one another and with locals on their trips, and it partners with local businesses to provide discounts and activities geared toward women fulfilling their wanderlust.
Approximately three in 10 Trendsetters aged 14 to 34 in the U.S. and UK want to have food- and drink-related adventures, and Uptaste can help. Also a London-based app, the brand uses location intelligence and expert and community curation to offer foodie travelers insights into local cuisine and gustatory events far outside of the usual restaurant reviews. Uptaste users can book food and beverage experiences prior to their trip via the app and create foodie bucket lists to track their tastes while traveling.
