Spa-like spaces offer services to male clientele

As young men are evolving the definition of what it means to be a modern male, new products and services are cropping up to cater to their needs, including grooming subscription services and salons specifically for them.

Located in Taguig, Philippines, The Refined Lounge is a combination barber shop, spa, bar, and networking lounge. Accepting only 220 members, The Refined Lounge is an appealing concept to Millennials who consider exclusive experiences to indicate luxury. Those lucky enough to be inducted pay a low monthly fee of P2,750, or approximately $51 USD, for unlimited haircuts, one free spa treatment monthly, access to the game and screening rooms, a 20% discount on additional spa treatments, grooming products, and at the bar, as well as invites to any events organized by the lounge.

The founder of Fresh Men Spa Lounge wanted a space for men to enjoy services without making the overwhelmingly female clientele of most such spaces uncomfortable. Recently opened in New London, CT, the Fresh Men Spa Lounge offers manicures, pedicures, paraffin treatments, and waxing, with plans to add massage therapy. High quality men’s grooming products are available for sale, and guests can enjoy coffee and a personal TV viewing experience with headphones. The space is also available for hosting corporate events.

When a salon owner in Woodstock, GA saw the new 1922 by J.M. Keune line of men’s grooming products, he decided to capitalize on the one-third of his customers made up of men by creating a space of their own. He created the 1922 Men’s Grooming Salon space with a 1920s vibe and masculine decor, offering services including haircuts and hot shaves, with massages, facials, microdermabrasion, and waxing offered in the dedicated spa room. Promotions with a local cigar bar and microbrewery are in the works to heighten the experience.
