AI Homework Helpers

In January, Cassandra Daily reported on how ChatGPT had hit the mainstream. Since then, generative AI has been upending industries, none more so than within education, where the trickle of news about AI writing tools like ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Bing has become a deluge. Students are now drinking from the AI fountain, with studies showing that 89% are now using AI to write their homework, causing fierce debates about ethics and conversations about what 21st-century learning should look like anyway. Meanwhile, for those pressed for time, happy to take a shortcut, or looking for help solving a math problem, there’s an AI option for them. As we near the end of the school year, we’re taking a look at the popularity of three programs that Gen Z and their Alpha cohorts are using to help streamline their homework process.

KHANMIGO

As schools nationwide ban AI tools, this Silicon Valley school encourages students to use one. Rather than solving a math problem for a student, Khanmigo is programmed to be a thoughtful tutor. It gives sophisticated prompts to encourage students to think more deeply about what they’re reading or encountering. It will soon be able to remember students’ histories and customize lessons and assessments.

HOMEWORK AI

Designed to quickly solve homework questions with a few simple taps, Homework.ai apparently provides answers to get through any assignment. Students can use the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature to scan documents, books, or any written material. Ask it for study tips or get it to ask you questions about specific subjects; this way, the app can test your knowledge, identify gaps, and prepare optimally for your next exam to supplement learning- but not copy results.

ELI5

Have you ever needed help understanding a difficult concept while doing homework? Well, fear not! ELI5 (Explain Like I’m Five) is an AI tool that simplifies complex ideas and concepts, making them easy to understand. It uses advanced natural language processing algorithms and machine learning to analyze questions and provide clear and concise answers.
