Breaking the Rules: Gen Z & Gender
Since Gen Z came of age, we’ve been talking about and witnessing a big shift in this generation’s overall perception of what gender is — or can be.
As a cohort that has bombarded social media, the internet, classrooms, and the world in general with fluidity and defiance to the status quo, Gen Zs have shown themselves to be loudly non-conforming, non-complacent, and definitely non-static.
But what is the new perspective this generation brings to the rest of the world in all things gender? Is it the introduction of non-binary identities? Are the ideas of rebellion against the societal norms? Or maybe the reclaiming of traditional gender roles as a tool for empowering? We might say: all of the above.
In this report we will explore Cassandra’s data on gender, and how it has evolved over the last decade. What has changed and what has stayed the same? Also, we will analyze how the characteristic fluid nature of Gen Z is affecting their relationship with gender once they assume its role in self-expression and community building.
