A peek into the topics buzzing at Cassandra

It's that time of the week! It's Friday again and all we know what that means: it's time to discuss the most talked-about internet news of the past seven days. Culture moves fast, and we at Cassandra try to move even faster to keep up with all the issues Gen Z can't stop thinking about. Today, we're diving into everything Latin Grammys, the crazy stories behind store-bought pesto, and how one of the biggest NFL players in the country is now "the guy from the Chiefs” — all this and more in this week's edition of Viral News.

Just yesterday the 24th Annual Latin Grammy Awards ceremony was held in Seville, Spain. The global reunion of the most prominent figures in Spanish and Portuguese language music is constantly in the center of many controversies, and this year was no exception. From snubbing urban genres to being accused of prioritizing European musicians over Latin American ones, the Latin Recording Academy was again under fire because of the selection of this year's venue. For the first time in the award ceremony's history, the event was held outside the US. Even though many criticized the decision, nothing could opaque the triumph of Latin American stars in most categories. Particularly Colombian women. "Mañana Será Bonito" by Karol G and "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 5" by Shakira won the biggest awards of the night (Album of the Year and Song of the Year, respectively). Another notch of girl power in the year of the Barbie!

Over the past few weeks, TikTok has been blazing with the wildest tales, all originating from a single clip: cooking influencer Susi Vidal discussing her disdain for store-bought pesto. What began as a harmless meme soon snowballed, with users stitching their videos to Susi's, playfully labeling her as eccentric while divulging even more outlandish personal stories. Gradually, an unspoken rule developed among the platform's users: never scroll past a video of Susi discussing pesto if you're eager for an unforgettable storytime. The viral clip has been going around the internet and reached back to Susi herself, and she used it to tell a personal anecdote of her first heavy encounter with alcohol. Even Gen Z's favorite chef, Gordon Ramsay, had something to say!

Alright, we are all aware of the collective obsession we have with the relationship between pop superstar Taylor Swift and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. What no one expected was that the news would also begin to come from other latitudes. This week T-Swift kicked off her international tour in Argentina, a crowd notorious for being very enthusiastic (so much so that fans camped out for 6 months just to snag front-row seats). During her show at the stadium, fans spotted the singer's new boyfriend and did not hesitate to record it and post it on TikTok, capturing the exact moment where Tay Tay decided to make a lyric change to her song Karma saying "Karma is the guy from the Chiefs" referring to her new relationship. Swifties went crazy and the football player seemed to be right there with them. Later on their podcast— the one Travis co-hosts with his brother, and fellow NFLer Jason Kelce—he couldn't contain his excitement about the whole Swiftie experience. Obviously, the clip went viral on the clock app.
