The 2024 Met Gala's Most Stunning Moments and Fashion Statements

Every year, fashion enthusiasts and celebrity-watchers eagerly await the return of the iconic Met Gala. On Monday, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s staircase once again hosted Hollywood’s biggest names. This year, the event was co-chaired by Anna Wintour, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Zendaya, and Bad Bunny, and celebrated the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” The dress code, “The Garden of Time,” inspired an array of florals and avant-garde ensembles. Join us as we look at the moments, celebrities and fashion choices that have us talking:

FRESH FACES

Among Met Gala regulars like the Kardashian family, there were some new faces in the crowd. All eight members of K-pop band Stray Kids attended together and wore custom designs by Tommy Hilfiger. “Representing Tommy Hilfiger as eight members for the first time on the Met Gala carpet is truly a rare and honorable moment for us,” said Stray Kids member Felix. Other fresh faces included singer, Tyla, who stunned in a Balmain dress made from sand. Yes, you read that right, the dress was constructed from three different colors of sand and mixed with micro crystal studs.

BOLD FASHION CHOICES

There is nothing quite like the fashion at the Met Gala. This year was no exception, with celebrities making some daring fashion choices. Doja Cat made headlines for stepping out of her hotel wearing a towel and when the singer hit the red carpet she opted for a wet maxi t-shirt dress. Actor Michael Shannon made his appearance with what looked like a half-crumpled bag of chips. In reality, the Balenciaga bag was made from calfskin and costs $1,850 – quite a bit more than your typical bag of chips!

NOTABLE ABSENCES

The Met Gala red carpet is the place to see and be seen. However, this year there were some prominent names missing from the event. Perhaps the most notable being Rihanna, whose Met Gala looks never disappoint. Also noticeably missing were actress Blake Lively and supermodel Kate Moss. Both Beyoncé and Taylor Swift have not attended a Met Gala since 2016, however, fans hold on to hope that they may return. Looks like Swifties and Queen Bey fans will have to wait another year, as neither were in attendance. Beyoncé’s sister Solange was also missing from the evening.
