Pi Day Celebrations
From Ice Cream Partnerships to Cosmic Challenges
Pi (represented by the Greek letter “π”) is a mathematical constant signifying the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Since the approximate value of pi is 3.14159 (rounded to 3.14) Pi Day is celebrated by math enthusiasts worldwide on March 14. Brands and people beyond mathematicians also join in on the fun:
MATHNASIUM AND BASKIN-ROBBINS - A SMART AND SWEET COLLAB
This year, Mathnasium and Baskin-Robbins teamed up for a National Pi Day partnership. From February 29 to March 14, participants can enter to win a $3,140 educational sponsorship and free ice cream for a year. Additionally, families enrolling at participating Mathnasium locations by March 31 will receive a $314 discount while Baskin-Robbins offered coupons for $2 off for their Polar Pizza treats through the Baskin-Robbins app. To celebrate the day, Mathnasium centers across the country are hosting free Pi Day parties where attendees can savor Baskin-Robbins’ ice cream treats. Mathnasium of Westwood, Los Angeles, will host a Baskin-Robbins takeover on Pi Day with merchandise giveaways, mascot appearances, prizes, games, crafts, sweet treats, and even a pink carpet.
BLAZE PIZZA - GRAB A PIE ON PI DAY
For some, the word “Pi” might evoke images of a cheesy pizza pie. For these individuals, Blaze Pizza, a leader in fast-casual pizza with locations across the United State, has a special Pi Day offering. On March 14, customers can grab any 11-inch pizza for $3.14. Create your own pizza with a choice of toppings for one low price in celebration of Pi Day. What a steal! Blaze Pizza has been celebrating Pi Day for over a decade but the company’s CEO calls this year’s the “biggest celebration yet”. Blaze Pizza isn’t the only place to get a deal this Pi Day, with many places offering special pizza discounts.
NASA - EXPLORING SPACE WITH PI
Have you ever wondered if pi serves any useful purpose beyond its classroom context? Well, now is your chance to learn about the cosmic applications of pi with NASA’s 2024 Pi Day Challenge. This year, the celebration started on March 7, inviting students and space enthusiasts to take on activities that demonstrate pi’s pivotal role in outer space.
