Friday is here, which means it’s time for our weekly recap of viral news! Culture moves fast, so we at Cassandra keep our eyes and ears open to catch the most relevant topics young people can’t stop talking about online. This week, we’ll talk about Kim Kardashian’s jab at the latest viral trend, a Gen Z led reboot of a Millennial classic, and the orange peel relationship test—all this and more in this edition of viral news!

SHE’S KIM K, OF COURSE SHE HAS A TANNING BED

Arguably one of the biggest celebrities in the world decided to jump on a viral TikTok trend and use it to give a sneak peak behind the curtains of her office space for her skincare brand SKKN BY KIM. The trend consists in jokingly listing the things you do because you’re… well, you. In her list she didn’t disappoint and showed to 13 million viewers how she not only has a tanning bed, a custom mannequin of her body and a TV wall, but also 3D models of her private plane and her brain? Eccentric as it is, people were living for the aspirational and over-the-top round up of things that Kim is able to have in her office space because she is Kim Kardashian.

YOU CAN’T SING WITH US

The remake/reboot/reprise of the cult Tina Fey movie, Mean Girls is finally out and reactions are mixed. Even though they are not publicizing it as either a remake of the original film nor the movie version of the Broadway musical, viewers have been either loving it or hating it. With some taking it to social media to criticize the music or script adaptation, others are living for the press tour and how unhinged the new Regina George, singer-actress Renee Rapp, is. Some argue she hasn't received media training and she shouldn’t do it so she can keep hitting on Rachel McAdams on live TV and calling Mark Cuban “cute”. This unapologetically chaotic Gen Z is the new celebrity obsession and we’re sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of her soon.

ORANGE PEEL THEORY

TikTok is filled with relationship theories, and one gaining traction within the Gen Z audience is the "orange peel theory." Popularized by TikTok user @annabhamm, the theory revolves around partners performing small acts of service, such as peeling an orange, to gauge their attitude towards the relationship and catch any red flags. Videos show TikTokers testing their partners' devotion by asking them to peel an orange, revealing varied responses. Some pass with flying colors, while others not so much. The tag #orangepeeltheory currently has over 150 million views. No vitamin C deficiency this month!
