VIRAL NEWS: SUPER BOWL LVIII MOVIE TRAILERS
A peek into the topics buzzing at Cassandra
Friday is here, which means it’s time for our weekly recap of viral news! This week, building upon Monday’s issue, we’re diving into last Sunday’s Super Bowl ads, part two, to discuss the most anticipated movies of 2024 based on their Super Bowl trailers. Movie fans are sharing their personal rankings of these trailers on TikTok and explaining their levels of excitement (or lack thereof). Let’s jump in!
SEQUELS
2024 seems to be in its sequels era, expecting quite a few additions to popular movie franchises. While it wasn’t on many radars prior to the official trailer release, Twisters is receiving major hype and there’s an overwhelming consensus that this is the movie young viewers are most excited for in 2024. Runner up is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, followed by A Quiet Place: Day One - both are recognized as consistent franchises that deliver compelling alternate realities and stories that shock and amaze. Finally, Deadpool & Wolverine. While many are cautiously optimistic that this 3rd chapter of Wade Wilson’s adventures could save the MCU, others feel the multi-universal meta humor is tired and not so funny anymore

Speaking of sequels, in the animated space, many Gen Alphas and Zs are excited for Inside Out 2 given the significance the first one had on their childhoods - they are looking forward to seeing how Riley handles her teenage years, encountering new emotions. The only complaint - they didn’t show any of the new emotions. Guess we’ll have to wait and see… Similar in theme, IF introduces and highlights the existence and importance of imaginary friendships in understanding and coping with teenage years and young adulthood, while featuring beloved comedians, including Ryan Reynolds, Emily Blunt, Steve Carell, and John Krasinski among others. Bring on the childhood nostalgia

Lastly, the acclaimed musical by Stephen Schwartz (and book by Winnie Holzman), Wicked, has been adapted and reimagined for the big screen. While Wicked the movie has a star-studded cast, including Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Jonathan Bailey, some viewers were less than impressed with the trailer. Some were expecting bolder, brighter visuals with that “Oz magic”, while others found the lack of singing and missing musical components concerning. But in general, lots of excitement around this reimagined theater classic with hopes that it will indeed defy gravity.
