WHO’S HUNGRY FOR SOME FUN?

Gen Z just want to be “eatertained”

The eatertainment category is nothing new. Chuck E. Cheese first opened in 1977. Dave & Buster’s opened five years later. But the space is particularly hot today, with Gen Z’s focus on experiences being a driving force behind this interest. It is also becoming increasingly crowded, with the likes of ax-throwing over burgers, pickleball before a pizza, or a craft cocktail during a concert. New eatertainment concepts are popping up and prioritizing activities, the experience and the menu. Ahead are three brands that are leading the way.

TOCA SOCIAL

TOCA Social is the world’s first interactive football and dining experience, combining immersive gaming and world-class food and drink. Soccer lovers (and the soccer-curious) will have a new place to gather later in 2023 when the “socially competitive soccer entertainment experience” opens its first U.S. location in the Dallas Design District. So far, the only other TOCA Social venue is at London’s live entertainment destination, The O2, attracting cast members from “Ted Lasso” and stars from U.K. soccer clubs.

    CAMP PICKLE

Jumping on the pickleball bandwagon, Robert Thompson, best known as the founder of the Punch Bowl Social eatertainment concept, is preparing to launch a chain of dining and games venues focused on the trend. Camp Pickle will feature a nostalgic “1940s national park/summer camp” motif, with a food and beverage menu designed to match 10-14 pickleball courts, plus other “old school” games such as duckpin bowling and darts. With a wide-ranging fan base, Camp Pickle's throwback aesthetic is designed to "be warm for older generations, and kitschy and new for Gen Z.”

    ELECTRIC SHUFFLE

Electric Shuffle is on a mission to amplify the moments people share together through immersive experiences. Created by a group of friends from across the globe, they took their most beloved moments from pubs in London to dive bars in Dallas and everything in between to reimagine how a classic bar game -shuffleboard – could be played. Leveraging a cool venue, the game includes interactive elements, a computer tracking and scoring system and delicious food and drinks.
